Abdullahi Rabiu, Peter Ajelabi

Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) skills acquisition of current TVET undergraduate of Nigeria tertiary institutions has been criticised for not meeting the desired goals. The technical drawing sessions give less emphasis to CADD software. The objectives of the study were to find out the skills needed for the application of CADD in TVET program, to ascertain the students’ capability of CADD application in TVET program, to discover the prospects of CADD application while designing and the constraints hindering the effective application of CADD in TVET program. Four research questions were developed based on the study objectives. 97 (ninety-seven) final year Technical Education students at Bayero University Kano (BUK) and 66(sixty-six) Federal College of Education Technical FCE(T) Bichi final year students, were the study population. 108 (one hundred and eight) students were used as the sample of the study. Descriptive survey method was adopted in the research work. Questionnaire (CADDSKILL) was developed and validated by three experts in the field of Drafting Technology Education, 0.85 for section A, 0.76 for section B, 0.74 for section C and 0.80 for section D, correlation co-efficient reliability indexes were obtained using split half method for ensuring consistency of these instruments. Mean and standard deviation were used for data analysis. The findings of the study showed that; problem solving skills, long term learning skill, ability to learn using video tutorial and computer operation skill were the skills needed. It is recommended that the students must have those CADD skills and learn CADD diligently, as this will improve their experience and enable them become more versatile and conversant with CADD packages.

The Theory of Quality of LifePDF

GIUSEPPE QUARTIERI

The THEORY of QUALITY of LIFE Giuseppe Quartieri, physicist, Grand Father of Quality, IBR professor and free professional President of the Scientific Committee of the “Climate Circles and Rural Culture (CACR)” ABSTRACT The scope is to develop and propose the fundamentals of the theory of the quality of life, that appears an old concept but it needs sound theoretical basics. This approach here proposed is based on the system science applied to the theory of quality. Developed by Quartieri in the 1980, this main fundamental value-quality relation convolute value, quality and cost of a system. System basic notion and its nature defined by von Bertalanffy and Miller and supported by the Harold Chestnut system engineering approach, has allowed Giuseppe Quartieri to develop the mentioned relation of convolution among value, quality and cost by using information theory. The analysis continues on the scale and ranking parameters to define the quality of life. The three crisis (Energy, Ecology/Climate and Economy) strongly influence the quality of life whilst the environmental factors inside the present climate change assume real priority in the frame of quality of life. Green deal and anthropic reduction of the Earth resources is one of the main topic of this analysis. New policy and management have to accept new standard for quality of life but not only money as economists are still continue to affirm. In the meantime, the concept of sustainability is criticized due to its inherent relativity and therefore its scientific nonsense. Anyway, sustainability can ever be computed by means of specific statistics still remaining and ambiguous concept part of the variability of systems. In the end of the day, the system value is not the cost but only and only the its convolution (faltung) with quality. Whilst those new concepts of quality of life are applicable, the fear of reducing the resources of the planet seems the most important concerns of some scientists, political and economic people. In this comes the divergence of ideas and opinions regarding the humanity supportability and the percentage of anthropic vs natural factors of the reduction of quality of life. Quality is life and life is quality, that’s all we know in the World and all we need to know. Giuseppe Quartieri rephrasing J. Keat Keywords: quality, life, sustainability, value, cost, environment, climate change, system

Effect of Damage to the Surface of the Rollers Due to Copper Penetration in the Manufacturing Process of the Cooper Rod Using the Hot Roll MethodPDF

E.E.Susanto, F. Rahmadianto, G.A. Pohan

The coiling material, the hot rolling of copper rods, the cooling process and laboratory tests of broken coils were studied. The research was conducted to determine the damage to the surface of the coils and the penetration of copper in the coils used for hot rolled copper rods. The roller material does not dissipate heat easily, causing small cracks on its surface. There are cracks on the surface of the rollers, and copper penetration is one of the reasons for the increased crack speed in the rollers. The standard cooling system used in the coils used in the hot rolling of copper rods is not optimal, which causes the hardness of the rolled material to be uneven. The difference in the hardness of the roller material will cause unsatisfactory stresses, and therefore will accelerate the roller crack rate. Once the cause of copper penetration into the coils due to hot rolling is known, radiation can be minimized, so that the life of the rolls can be extended.
